As telecom operators migrate to NGN architectures they need assurance that synchronisation over Ethernet or IP/MPLS works before they deploy new services.
The IEEE1588 Conformity Alliance, Metro Ethernet (MEF) and Broadband Forums promote product and service certification programmes for Carrier Ethernet and IP/MPLS technology respectively. Certain services must deliver high levels of synchronisation e.g. mobile backhaul. Certification programmes from both these bodies provide the confidence equipment manufacturers and operators need to sell their equipment or services.
SyncWatch when used in conjunction with other tools to ensure that E1/T1 timing performance and packet delay variation or PTP/1588-2008 timing errors may be simultaneously monitored and correlated. This important data enables applications and network equipment to be fully evaluated so that risks associated with their deployment in existing networks can be quantified.
"The synchronisation test environment Chronos have developed is extremely flexible to meet the needs of our Lab and field certification work. As importantly perhaps, these very same tools can be used by our clients the operators to monitor the performance over the longer term" MD of Large Certification Lab
