A UK national radio station sending streams over an SDH network from the studio in London to transmitters around the country was experiencing glitches in broadcasting.  The issue was suspected to be an SDH synchronisation problem at the interconnect between media encoders at the studio and the transport network caused by poor synchronisation on the network E1 links. 

Testing using SyncWatch showed that the network E1 links were good but that the local clock at the studio had large phase jumps on the output.  This was traced to a defective GPS installation and additionally an oscillator was out of tuning limits. The GPS antenna was moved, the GPS unit replaced and the problem fixed.
